EVENTS

Again, thanks to all members who have been consistently showing to meetings and contributing in any way. We are now well into the semester, coursework and assessment have started to be come very real and we hope everyone good luck for upcoming exams.

As mentioned last newsletter, full society group photos have been taken, and it was great seeing everyone in our new fancy merch. This has been our largest number of members in a group photo, take a look on our website for the full collection!

The society also had the chance to visit Alba Orbital, a Glasgow based satellite company specialising in pocket cubes!

This was a great opportunity to speak to industry leading professionals and also gain further insight on satellite design, which was especially useful for the STRATHcube team. Thanks again to Alba Orbital for arranging this visit!

ROCKETRY

Nearing the end of the design phase, the Rocketry team held a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for this year’s rocket, “Nevis”. This is the chance for all rocketry members to come together and present their work so far in their respective sub-teams, allowing everyone to see and understand parts of the rocket.

This year was extremely successful, being our fastest PDR yet, thanks again to everyone who came and presented. It was great seeing the progress of everyone’s designs!

After submitting the application for IREC 2026, we have successfully been accepted for the fifth year in a row! We are proud to represent Scotland once again on the world stage while also being one of only two teams competing this year from the UK.

STRATHcube

Our STRATHcube team have been hard at work further designing the 2U CubeSat. The Alba Orbital visit was a great chance to ask technical questions relating to satellite design and our CubeSat!

The team also had a successful check point with the ESA review team checking in on our progress with another update meeting in early January!

The 1U CubeSat workshop has been a great success so far, with sessions being paused until after exam period to allowing everyone time to work on coursework and revision.

Keep your eyes peeled for further updates next semester! Special thanks for the members helping run and manage these sessions.

We hope everyone good luck with their exams and a relaxing break!

Thanks for reading!
