Newsletter | September 2025

Welcome to our first newsletter of the year for the September month! We hope all new and returning members of StrathAIS have enjoyed these past few busy weeks. It has been great speaking to and hearing everyone’s enthusiasm for the society at the introductions, meetings and our first social! This newsletter will cover what the society has been involved in for the month of September and our planned events going forward.

After a summer of admin and preparation, we kicked off a busy year with a fresher’s stall and presentations to students in MAE and EEE departments, followed by an induction meeting and bowling social, it was great getting to know everyone.

ROCKETRY

Our first Rocketry sub-team meetings; payload, avionics, structures and recovery, kicked off in week 2.

Giving members an insight into each important area of the project and being assigned tasks to look into for the coming weeks.

These will be held weekly and are a great chance to share and develop your work with the rest of the team! Thank you to all the returning members, your experience will be cruical in helping new members.

The first in a series of workshops the OpenRocket software tutorial workshop also took place, we hope this gave everyone the opportunity to learn something from the software which is used extensively to help design and model the rocket, thanks again to the members who helped host.

The next workshop taking place on the 8th of October covers RASAero, another software used to analyse aerodynamics and flight simulations of the rocket at supersonic speeds.

STRATHcube

Our first STRATHcube meetings also started this month, it was great to see all the new members interested in the project and the sustainable use of space.

We hope everyone enjoyed speaking to other members and learning more about what they do, the various sub-systems are great opportunities to gain experience within STRATHcube and satellite systems. These meetings will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 5-7, these are great opportunities to meet with other members and share your work!

The first 1U CubeSat workshop also took place in week 2. This involves the STRATHcube team guiding new members through designing and assembling a satellite in SOLIDWORKS to then be rendered in a space environment.

Starting with the mechanical tasks we hope to see everyone that took part returning to move on to the electrical and software stages! This workshop will also be held weekly 5-7 on a Thursday. A big thanks to the members who have helped host!
